The EDVARD GRIEG SOCIETY OF NEW YORK, will present a Grieg concert on January 16, 2016, at the Liederkrantz Club in New York with cellist and Juilliard faculty member, Darrett Adkins, performing the Grieg Cello Sonata with celebrated pianist, Ann Schein. The launching of a new GRIEG SOCIETY OF THE DAKOTAS will take place at Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota on February 18, 2016. A voice concert of Grieg songs and piano works featuring Marla Fogderud and Darci Bultema and pianist Keith Teepen will serve as a kickstarter event for the new Grieg Society of the Dakotas.

Soprano and noted expert on Scandinavian art song, Anna Hersey, will perform with Matti Hirvonen, Swedish pianist and professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, in programs that include Grieg’s Haugtussa and other Scandinavian composers. Hirvonen will present master classes at the Cleveland Institute of Music on February 11, 2016, and join Anna Hersey in concerts in Portales, New Mexico and Tacoma, Washington. Hersey’s article, “Beyond Grieg: Norwegian Art Songs” was just released in the National Association of Teachers journal, Nov/Dec. issue. Her book, Scandinavian Art Song: A Guide to Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish Diction and Repertoire is forthcoming from Rowman & Littlefield. More information on http://www.griegsocietyusa.org/

THE UKRAINIAN GRIEG SOCIETY is planning its official opening in May 2016. The society will be based at the Music College in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. Liubov Syniak, who is organizing the society and events during the week before the opening, is organizing concerts and competitions between pupils of music schools and students of the Music College.
