Grieg Stichting Nederland was established in Groningen in Netherlands 23 August 2002, by the pianist Siebert Nix, the pianist Elles van der Heiden (together the Grieg pianoduo) and the mezzo-soprano Riekje Bloembergen. In co-operation with foreign Grieg Societies, this new foundation wants to give image to the importance of Grieg’s personality and music in the Netherlands by organizing cultural and educational events in the broadest sense. The Society wants to place the connection Grieg had with the Netherlands into international perspectives. Grieg visited Netherlands three times by giving concerts as a pianist and conductor of his own works. He started a close friendship with the Dutch composer, pianist and conductor Julius Röntgen (1855-1932, see photo).
Organizing symposia and concerts, and inspiring new artistic events, the Grieg Stichting Nederland wants to contribute to a greater interest in the life and work of Edvard Grieg in the Netherlands.
